I'M TAKING BACK THE CROWN

To the public, Himura Mao is everything a decorated police officer should be. She's kind, humble, caring, compassionate, and incredibly hardworking. She puts the people first and is courageous and dependable in times of danger. She's polite and well-spoken, always willing to volunteer whenever she has time. She is truly the blueprint of how the police should be, and she takes great pride in that. [break][break]
But, what's unknown to the public and to her coworkers is that she's not such a martyr or so selfless, oh no. Mao is greedy and selfish, only thinking about what she wants and how she'll go about obtaining it. She wants to be the most decorated officer in the force. She wants to be their crowning glory, the one they all proclaim a hero, an asset, indispensable. She wants to be worshipped, to be seen as the wonder she knows she is and she'll stop at nothing to get there. Mao wants the world to know that she's capable, that she's wonderful, that her achievements outshine her brothers'. [break][break]
She doesn't care if she has to use the people around her to achieve it. This is all about her. She wants the crown she so rightfully deserves, to show her brothers, her father, that she's better than all of them combined. [break][break]

I SEE WHAT'S MINE AND TAKE IT

Mao was always the unseen child, the disappointment. Crybaby Mao, who would amount to nothing because she's the youngest child of five. With older brothers that have already excelled in areas of medicine and business and politics and the arts, all golden children in academics and valedictorians of their graduating classes. Whatever she achieved would be nothing compared to them. It was to be expected of her, and she hated it, hated being seen as lesser in any way. She was just as capable, just as hardworking and intelligent. [break][break]
The Himura family is old and influential, having ties in business since the Showa Period when they were creating textiles. They have always created exceptional children, and the five children of Asahi and Mei Himura were expected to amount to great things. And they did, all except for little Mao, who was the youngest and already in her brothers' shadows. One would think that they would help her, but no. All they did was make that inferiority worse, too wrapped up in trying to out-do one another that Mao became someone to bully to relieve stress. [break][break]
It got especially bad during high school, making her truly feel like she was worthless and that she'd always be worthless. Something happened though, a freak accident. She was minding her own business, doing her usually after school duties. She remembers that the school was doing some construction work, metal beams and what have you all over the place. She remembers the sound of the wire snapping and the girl who was frozen in fear under the beam. Mao's body moved before she could think, and she was rushing to shove the girl out of the way, the two tumbling away from the beam just as it hit the ground with a deafening 'BANG', kicking up so much dust and debris. Mao had shielded the girl with her body, only looking up when everything went silent. She had saved her, and the flurry of activity afterward was truly the turning point.[break][break]
Mao was recognized for her courageous act, for saving the freshman from being potentially killed. She was awarded a medal and hailed a hero. [break][break]
A hero. [break][break]
A Hero.[break][break]
Her mind snapped and at that moment everything clicked into place. She wanted that. She wanted that recognition so badly she could taste it. She saved a life, she did something her stupid older brothers never did in school. This was what she could do. This was how she would carve her self into her family. This was how she would arrive at the four-way chess table her dear brothers sat it, unaware of her, and turn it into a poker game with a royal flush in her hands. [break][break]
After high school, Mao joined the police academy, graduating with the highest marks, and began her journey through the police force. Saving lives proved to be a more difficult endeavor than anticipated and with every passing day and no recognition in her hands, she grew desperate. She craved that recognition, she wanted to be hailed a hero again. So she did the unthinkable; Mao turned to the yakuza. [break][break]
Create situations where she could save civilians and be seen as a hero and she'd pay them handsomely. They did their part, and she did hers, and before she knew it, the awards were coming her way, the recognition, the acclaim, the respect and adoration of her peers and civilians alike. Mao was finally getting what she wanted and she knew that nothing and no one would get in her way. That, she was going to make sure of.[break][break]
