Born to a Japanese mother and a French father, Auben Bouchard-Nishimura entered the world. The relationship his parents shared was a rocky one, the two's affection for each other waxing and waning unpredictably, but he only hear it from outside closed doors

When his mother decided to divorce and return to her parents in Japan Auben was but eleven. His mother could be stressed, but his father had a violent streak that had emerged in the time since the child was born. Auben had seen it grow, so when his mother served the papers while his father was on a business trip he asked to come with. There were legal hurdles to overcome, and his father tried to gain custody for a handful of years, then visitation for a time more. Last Auben heard he went to prison for some white collar crime. Lying on this or that. The adjustment to more permanent life in japan was relatively quick; he'd been there quite some number of times visiting his mother's family, after all.

Fresh out of school Auben started work at an accounting firm. Math had always been his strong suit, and he was quite willing to work with files and floppy disks that others would find a little dry. Out of his apartment he handles additional work "putting numbers in boxes and sending money where it needs to go," even for less savory people and more dubious money. He can't quite remember when he started doing it, or... how exactly, but he does know it pays the bills just fine
