That's Why I Tell Lies

The first thing to note about Izuru is that he cannot be trusted. Give him an inch and he'll take a mile before anyone even realizes it. And when they do, their information is already being sold to the highest bidder. Izuru is well adept at coming off as charming and innocent. His boyish charm makes him likable and he's very good at tailoring his personality to what's needed at the moment. One could call him 'The Man of Many Faces' with how quickly he changes. He's not afraid to flirt, to lie, to steal, and to screw his way into the information he desires. After all, this all for his own comfort and stability. No one else matters to him. [break][break]
He really is a despicable creature, selfish in his desires and only thinking of himself. He'll get into a person's good graces, make himself an integral part of their lives, and then he'll leave and take everything with him. And if they try to confront him about it, he will gaslight the victim into believing that it was their fault in the first place, leaving without a trace and without an ounce of regret. [break][break]
One must wonder how he came to be this way. He remembered reading once somewhere that the environment a child grows up in shapes who they are as an adult. In some ways, he supposed that was true, but it wasn't all at once. He didn't have anyone to shape him: he had to shape himself. His father was a deadbeat drunk who barely paid attention, no matter if he was drunk or sober. Izuru learned from a young age how to fend for himself, and to care for only himself. The only time his father said anything to him was when he found money missing from his wallet.[break][break]
That's where he started to lie and lie really well.[break][break]
After all, he had to eat and needed things for school. If his father wasn't going to actively buy it, then he'd get it himself. So he stole and was able to twist his father's accusations into making him second-guess everything he knew. He had already used that money. He had already drunk all his liquor. It's not his fault that he spent it all. He got caught in a lie once, and only once. He vowed to never get caught again.[break][break
(The bruises ached into his bones for weeks).[break][break]
Elementary school and middle school passed in the same fashion. Izuru was good about keeping his father's habits a secret. His vices were none of his concern and not his problem, even as a child. Did that make him heartless? Perhaps, perhaps not. How does one define heartlessness when they haven't been shown what it means to have a heart? Nevertheless, he kept under the radar, lied about his father whenever a teacher tried to pull him in for conferences with the excuse that he was a very busy man and often traveled, and was the picture-perfect student. Things only began to change once he hit secondary school. [break][break]
Looking back on it, he supposed that high school is where it all began. He was quickly pulled into the popular crowd with his good looks and amiable personality. He was so very charming and seemed so sweet, so it was almost too easy for fellow classmates to trust him. This trust came with secrets they normally wouldn't tell anyone else, secrets that others would do anything to collect for themselves. But kids in high school are awfully petty and are willing to pay a price to tear another down. How could he turn down such a lucrative business offer? And really, it would have been their fault for entrusting him with such sensitive information anyway. [break][break]
When he graduated high school, he knew that this information business was one he could excel in, so he began to plan and began to network. Charisma and flattery were his selling points along with his pretty face, and though it's taken him five years to establish his trade, he's finally there. If someone wants good information and is willing to pay for it, Izuru is the person to seek out. He will step on people, push them down, destroy them, and use them to get himself to a place where he's comfortable and content.[break][break]
A liar only needs himself after all.
